The U16 Boys took part in the 23rd Annual New Minas Invitational Tournament August 8th - 10th. Winning Friday night 1-0, they headed to the Valley again bright and early the next morning to play one of the top teams in the Valley. Losing a tough 3-2 match the boys lifted their heads to face their next game. Later that afternoon, they beat West Kings Storm 3-1: another tough game. Sunday morning was the semi-finals against last years U16 provincial champs, Pictou: coming out with a 2-0 win playing "their best game that weekend!". The gold medal game faced them up with East Kings yet again. A 3-0 loss placed them 2nd overall with 8 teams competing in their age division. Congratulations boys, to a job well done boys! Silver medals don't come easy!
24th Annual Valley Kick-off tournament
The Under 16 Boys team has also competed in another other tournament thus far this summer. The 24th annual Valley Kick-off held in the Valley area, June 20th - 22nd. The competition was fierce, winning their way into a spot in the semi-finals early Sunday morning. The team took an upset in a very close, very intense game against East Kings in the semi-finals. None-the-less, it didn't put a damper on the boys, they knew they'd played tough a weekend!
21st Annual Gunn Balderson Tournament
The Under 18 Girls took to the field July 4th, 5th & 6th to participate in the 21st Annual Gunn Balderson Memorial tournament. Friday night they were faced up against a tough city team, Dartmouth United. Tieing the team 0-0 set them up for a good weekend ahead. The next morning the girls were set to play Halifax/Dunbrack, a loss there meant nothing to the girls: knowing they were just as good. Later that afternoon they faced one of the better teams in their league play, South Shore BMO's. New Ross was 3 goals up on the BMO's, giving all they had just wasn't enough. A mixture of the heat and fatigue wasn't in their favour: the BMO's were able to tie it up by the final whistle 3-3. Going home with a respectable 0-1-2 finish was a pleasing way to end off the weekend!
